AI dan Pohon Pengetahuan: Pembacaan Teologis-Pentakostal tentang Discernment di Era Digital

Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has not only transformed the ways people process information but has also raised new theological questions concerning the nature of knowledge, wisdom, and spiritual discernment. Within the Pentecostal tradition, these developments are closely related to the capacity to discern the will of God, remain attentive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and interpret reality through the lens of faith. This study employs a constructive theological approach that integrates narrative hermeneutics, theology of technology, and Pentecostal pneumatology to interpret AI through the symbolism of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in Genesis 2–3. The Eden narrative is understood not as a literal identification of AI with the forbidden tree, but as a theological pattern that reveals humanity’s tendency to pursue autonomous knowledge apart from dependence on God. The study advances three principal arguments. First, AI represents a form of calculative knowledge that differs fundamentally from biblical wisdom because it is detached from relationship, character, and obedience to God. Second, the modern worldview, with its emphasis on empirical rationality, tends to diminish the two-realm worldview that underlies Pentecostal spirituality, thereby obscuring awareness of the spiritual dimensions of technological development. Third, the digital environment shaped by algorithmic logic can become a sphere of spiritual contestation that influences moral orientation, human affections, and patterns of spiritual dependence. The primary contribution of this article is the development of a Pentecostal theological framework that brings together the Eden narrative, spiritual discernment, and spiritual warfare as an interpretive lens for understanding AI. This framework offers a perspective that remains largely absent from the existing literature on the theology of technology while proposing *prophetic discernment* as a constructive Pentecostal response to spiritual formation in the digital age.

Perkembangan Artificial Intelligence (AI) tidak hanya mengubah cara manusia memproses informasi, tetapi juga menghadirkan pertanyaan baru mengenai sumber pengetahuan, hikmat, dan discernment dalam kehidupan iman. Bagi tradisi Pentakostal, perkembangan ini berkaitan erat dengan kemampuan membedakan kehendak Allah, memelihara kepekaan terhadap pimpinan Roh Kudus, dan menafsirkan realitas dalam terang iman. Artikel ini menggunakan pendekatan teologi konstruktif yang memadukan hermeneutika naratif, teologi teknologi, dan pneumatologi Pentakostal untuk membaca AI melalui simbolisme Pohon Pengetahuan tentang yang Baik dan yang Jahat dalam Kejadian 2–3. Narasi Eden dipahami bukan sebagai identifikasi literal terhadap AI, melainkan sebagai pola teologis yang menggambarkan kecenderungan manusia mencari pengetahuan secara otonom di luar relasi ketergantungan kepada Allah. Kajian ini menghasilkan tiga pokok argumentasi. Pertama, AI merepresentasikan pengetahuan kalkulatif yang berbeda secara mendasar dari hikmat biblika karena tidak berakar pada relasi, karakter, dan ketaatan kepada Allah. Kedua, worldview modern yang berorientasi pada rasionalitas empiris cenderung mereduksi kosmovisi dua alam yang menjadi salah satu fondasi spiritualitas Pentakostal sehingga mengaburkan kesadaran terhadap dimensi spiritual dalam perkembangan teknologi. Ketiga, ruang digital yang dibentuk oleh logika algoritmik dapat menjadi arena kontestasi rohani yang membentuk orientasi moral, afeksi, dan kebergantungan spiritual manusia. Kontribusi utama artikel ini adalah pengembangan kerangka teologis-Pentakostal yang menghubungkan narasi Eden, discernment rohani, dan peperangan spiritual sebagai lensa untuk memahami AI. Kerangka ini menawarkan perspektif yang belum banyak dibahas dalam literatur teologi teknologi sekaligus mengajukan prophetic discernment sebagai respons gereja Pentakostal terhadap formasi spiritual di era digital.
