Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based on Large Language Models has fundamentally transformed the practice of biblical studies. AI can now perform linguistic analysis of Greek and Hebrew, compare manuscript variants, synthesize exegetical literature, and map intertextual relationships within seconds. These capabilities raise an urgent hermeneutical question: how should the Pentecostal tradition, which places the illumination of the Holy Spirit at the center of biblical interpretation, position this technology within the interpretive process? This study employs a qualitative library research method combining content analysis and theological hermeneutics to reconstruct the Pentecostal hermeneutical paradigm in response to AI. The findings demonstrate that AI cannot be positioned as a biblical interpreter since it lacks spiritual consciousness, faith experience, and the capacity for theological discernment. However, AI is also inadequately understood as a merely passive technical tool, given its active involvement in data processing and knowledge synthesis. This study proposes the concept of hermeneutical partner as the theological position of AI in biblical studies, defined as an analytical partner that supports the exegetical process at the linguistic, historical, and comparative levels, while interpretive authority remains with Scripture, the church community, and the illuminating work of the Holy Spirit. This concept is formulated within the framework of Digital Biblical Theology, which integrates Pentecostal hermeneutical principles with AI's computational capacity without displacing the supremacy of divine revelation.

Abstrak

Perkembangan Artificial Intelligence (AI) berbasis Large Language Models telah mengubah praktik studi Alkitab secara fundamental. AI kini mampu melakukan analisis linguistik bahasa Yunani dan Ibrani, membandingkan varian manuskrip, menyintesis literatur tafsiran, dan memetakan hubungan intertekstual dalam hitungan detik. Kemampuan ini menimbulkan pertanyaan hermeneutis yang mendesak: bagaimana tradisi Pentakostal yang menempatkan iluminasi Roh Kudus sebagai pusat penafsiran Alkitab harus memosisikan teknologi ini dalam proses interpretasi? Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kepustakaan dengan pendekatan kualitatif yang memadukan analisis isi dan hermeneutika teologis untuk merekonstruksi paradigma hermeneutika Pentakostal dalam merespons AI. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa AI tidak dapat diposisikan sebagai penafsir Alkitab (biblical interpreter) karena tidak memiliki kesadaran spiritual, pengalaman iman, maupun kemampuan melakukan theological discernment. Namun, AI juga tidak tepat jika hanya dipahami sebagai alat teknis yang pasif, mengingat keterlibatan aktifnya dalam pengolahan data dan penyusunan sintesis pengetahuan. Penelitian ini mengajukan konsep hermeneutical partner sebagai posisi teologis AI dalam studi Alkitab, yaitu mitra analitis yang mendukung proses eksegesis pada tataran linguistik, historis, dan komparatif, sementara otoritas penafsiran tetap berada pada Kitab Suci, komunitas gereja, dan karya iluminasi Roh Kudus. Konsep ini dirumuskan dalam kerangka Teologi Biblika Digital (Digital Biblical Theology) yang mengintegrasikan prinsip hermeneutika Pentakostal dengan kapasitas komputasional AI tanpa menggeser supremasi wahyu Allah.
