Abstract

Abstract

The doctrine of salvation occupies a central place in Christian theology, yet the question of whether salvation can be lost remains an unresolved debate between the Calvinist and Arminian traditions. The eternal security view emphasizes divine sovereignty and the certainty of grace, while the conditional salvation view stresses the responsibility of faith and the genuine possibility of apostasy. Contemporary scholarship tends to align with one camp and rarely brings both positions into constructive dialogue, particularly within the context of Indonesian evangelical theology. This article aims to construct a biblical-theological synthesis of the debate through a literature review using a descriptive-analytical approach. The sources include biblical texts, systematic theological works, and recent Scopus-indexed journal articles. The findings demonstrate that both views rest on solid biblical foundations and highlight different yet complementary dimensions of salvation. Salvation is best understood as the sovereign work of divine grace that calls for the continuous response of faith, making the theological tension between the two positions constructive rather than contradictory.

Doktrin keselamatan menempati posisi sentral dalam teologi Kristen, namun pertanyaan apakah keselamatan dapat hilang atau tidak masih menjadi perdebatan terbuka antara tradisi Calvinis dan Arminian. Pandangan keselamatan kekal menekankan kedaulatan Allah dan kepastian anugerah, sedangkan pandangan keselamatan bersyarat menekankan tanggung jawab iman dan kemungkinan kemurtadan. Kajian-kajian kontemporer cenderung berdiri dalam salah satu kubu dan jarang mempertemukan kedua pandangan secara dialogis, khususnya dalam konteks teologi evangelikal Indonesia. Artikel ini bertujuan menyusun sintesis biblis-teologis terhadap perdebatan tersebut melalui kajian pustaka dengan pendekatan deskriptif-analitis. Sumber yang digunakan mencakup teks Alkitab, literatur teologi sistematika, dan artikel jurnal terkini terindeks Scopus. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa kedua pandangan memiliki dasar biblis yang kokoh dan menyoroti dimensi keselamatan yang berbeda namun saling melengkapi. Keselamatan paling tepat dipahami sebagai karya anugerah Allah yang berdaulat sekaligus menuntut respons iman yang berkelanjutan, sehingga ketegangan teologis di antara keduanya bersifat konstruktif, bukan kontradiktif.
