AI Policy
This policy governs the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies in the research, writing, review, and editorial processes for all manuscripts submitted to DIEGESIS: Jurnal Teologi Kharismatika. The purpose of this policy is to preserve academic integrity, ensure transparency, and promote ethical practices in scholarly communication within the field of Pentecostal and Charismatic theology. As AI tools become increasingly integrated into academic work, this policy establishes a framework for their responsible and ethical use. It ensures that all contributors-authors, reviewers, and editors—uphold the highest standards of scholarly excellence and integrity. This policy will be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect advancements in AI technology and its implications for academic publishing.
Guidelines for Authors
a. Use of AI in Research
-
Authors may use AI tools for data analysis, text mining, or other research-related tasks, provided that such use is explicitly described in the Methodology section of the manuscript.
-
Authors must disclose the name, version, and purpose of the AI tools used, and acknowledge any limitations, assumptions, or potential biases to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
b. Use of AI in Writing
-
Authors must disclose any use of AI in drafting, editing, translating, or proofreading the manuscript. This includes tools such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, DeepL, or similar platforms.
-
AI tools may assist in technical or linguistic refinement but must not replace the author’s intellectual contribution.
-
All AI-generated content must be reviewed, verified, and contextualized by the author to ensure theological accuracy and academic reliability.
c. Authorship and AI
-
AI systems cannot be listed as authors under any circumstances. Authorship is reserved solely for individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research and writing process.
-
Authors bear full responsibility for the content of the manuscript, including sections that involved AI-assisted work.
d. Ethical Considerations
-
Authors must ensure that the use of AI tools adheres to ethical research standards, including data privacy, informed consent, and institutional ethics regulations.
-
AI tools must not be used to fabricate, falsify, or manipulate data. Any misuse will be treated as a serious ethical violation and may result in retraction or other sanctions.
e. Referencing AI-Generated Texts
If AI tools such as ChatGPT or others are used to generate or assist in writing, their contributions must be clearly cited in the manuscript and the reference list.
Guidelines for Reviewers
a. Use of AI in Peer Review
-
Reviewers may use AI tools for supporting tasks such as grammar checking, summarization, or citation verification.
-
However, AI tools must not be used to form critical evaluations, judgments, or recommendations regarding the theological or academic merit of the manuscript.
-
Any use of AI in the review process must be disclosed to the editorial board for transparency.
b. Responsibilities and Human Oversight
-
The peer review process must remain fundamentally human-led. Reviewers are expected to exercise their theological expertise and academic judgment.
-
Reviewers should use AI tools cautiously, ensuring that their evaluation remains accurate, unbiased, and rooted in theological and scholarly understanding.
Guidelines for Editors
a. AI-Assisted Editorial Processes
-
Editors may use AI tools for non-decisional tasks such as plagiarism detection, language correction, metadata management, or workflow tracking to improve editorial efficiency.
-
Decisions regarding manuscript acceptance, rejection, or revision must remain the exclusive responsibility of human editors and editorial board members.
b. Disclosure and Transparency
-
The editorial team must disclose any significant use of AI tools in the editorial workflow to ensure accountability and maintain trust with contributors and readers.
Transparency and Disclosure
All stakeholders-authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose the use of AI tools in their respective roles. Disclosure should include:
-
The type and version of the AI tool used;
-
The purpose and scope of its use; and
-
The extent of its influence on the research or editorial process.
Failure to disclose significant AI usage will be considered an ethical violation and may result in corrective measures, including manuscript rejection, retraction of published articles, or suspension of reviewer/editorial privileges.
Integrity and Accountability
DIEGESIS: Jurnal Teologi Kharismatika reserves the right to:
-
Request detailed explanations or supporting documentation regarding the use of AI tools in any manuscript or review process;
-
Conduct investigations and take appropriate actions in cases of unethical or undisclosed AI use;
-
Retract published articles where AI misuse or misrepresentation is discovered post-publication.
Continuous Review
This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated to align with emerging AI technologies and global publishing standards. The editorial board welcomes feedback from contributors and readers to refine and improve this policy continuously.
