This paper explores the clause “Namely in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ” within the context of the meaning disruptions that occur in the post-truth era, particularly as influenced by social media. Historically rooted in the practice of immersion baptism within the Pantecostalism tradition since the Dutch East Indies era, this clause has undergone shifts in perception and has even been stigmatized as deviant teaching by various digital actors in today’s public sphere. Using a qualitative approach that combines digital ethnography and content analysis, this study investigates the representation, interpretation, and rejection of the clause across various digital platforms. The findings indicate that social media has transformed into a theatrical arena where digital figures renegotiate theological meanings through personal expressions of faith intertwined with viral public opinion. This research contributes to academic discussions on post-truth Indonesia’s Pantecostalism in the religious landscape shaped by social media. It highlights how the transformation of Indonesian Pantecostal theology is influenced by subjectivity, emotion, and the dynamics of viral digital information-oftenly by cyberbullying they ignore historical foundations, sociological data, and biblical truths. These findings emphasize the urgency for the church to critically engage with digital developments as a new arena for shaping understandings of faith.
Abstrak
Tulisan ini mengkaji klausa “Yaitu di dalam Nama Tuhan Yesus Kristus” dalam konteks disrupsi makna yang terjadi di era post-truth melalui media sosial. Klausa yang historisitasnya berakar dari praktik sakramen baptisan selam dalam tradisi Pantekostalisme sejak era Hindia Belanda ini mengalami pergeseran persepsi, bahkan stigmatisasi sebagai ajaran menyimpang oleh sejumlah aktor digital di ruang publik kontemporer. Dengan pendekatan kualitatif melalui gabungan digital ethnography dan content analysis, penelitian ini menelusuri representasi, interpretasi, serta penolakan terhadap klausa tersebut dalam konten digital di sejumlah platform. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media sosial telah menjadi arena teaterikal di mana figur-figur digital menegosiasikan ulang makna teologis melalui ekspresi iman personal yang terjalin dengan opini publik yang viral. Studi ini menawarkan kontribusi kebaruan dalam isi kajian akademik, yakni Pantekostalisme di Indonesia era post-truth beragama di media sosial yang disumbangkan setelah mengkaji doktrin gereja dengan menyoroti bagaimana transformasi makna teologi Pantekosta Indonesia dapat terbentuk oleh subjektivitas, emosi, dan dinamika viralitas informasi digital-sering kali dengan cyberbullying justru mengabaikan fondasi historis, data sosiologis, dan kebenaran biblika. Temuan ini memperlihatkan urgensi bagi gereja untuk merespons secara kritis perkembangan digital sebagai medan baru pembentukan pemahaman iman.
